Wisdom Teeth Removal

What are wisdom teeth and how do I know if I need mine removed?

Wisdom teeth are the third molars and can cause pain if they do not come in properly. A lot of times, there is not enough room left for these third molars to grow in properly which results in them growing in at an angle, or making them unable to emerge fully. If your wisdom teeth do not grow in correctly, it can lead to pain or infection. Here at the Center of Dental Professionals we like to schedule all of our patients for a wisdom teeth consult at the age of 16.

If the doctor finds it necessary to remove the wisdom teeth, they will schedule another time for you to come in and have those teeth that post a threat to your oral health removed.

What can I expect from the surgery?

Wisdom teeth removal is a fairly quick surgery. You will be put under local or general anesthetic and all wisdom teeth that need to be removed, are done all at once. The recovery time is approximately 4-6 days. Your dentist/surgeon will instruct you on how to take care of your mouth after the surgery during the recovery period.
